The lag is caused by delays in photovoltaic power plant development.
The Energy Information Administration (EIA) reported last week that solar power contributed far less to American power in the last six months than originally estimated. Photovoltaic power plant developers had planned to be able to produce 17.8 gigawatts between January 2022 and June 2022 but had only managed to get 4.2 gigawatts online. The industry as a whole has been experiencing noticeable development delays.
“Various factors could cause delays, including broad economic factors, such as supply chain constraints, labor shortages, and high prices of components, and factors specific to electric generator projects, such as obtaining permits or testing equipment,” wrote the EIA in their report. President Biden lifted solar module import tariffs in June for a 24-month period via executive order to try to address these delays.
